Our Commitment to Sustainability

We’re focused on creating premium, sustainable goods that connect you with nature.

Our Sustainable Journey

Slow Fashion is the movement of designing, creating, and buying garments for quality and longevity. It encourages slower production schedules, fair wages, and lower carbon footprints.

Slow fashion represents all things “eco,” “ethical,” and “green” in one unified movement… the ‘slow approach’ intervenes as a revolutionary process in the contemporary world because it encourages taking time to ensure quality production, to give value to the product, and contemplate the connection with the environment. — Slow Factory

Planet Keiki embodies Slow Fashion values from our personal standpoint as well our business model.

Our Business Model

Traditional shopping chains mass produce their goods to save money. This can lead to greater textile waste, higher pollution levels, unreasonable employee demands, and more.

Meanwhile, we custom make our goods only when a customer places an order on our website. This avoids overproduction of products that don’t get sold. Several retail giants burn or dispose of excess products in landfills. With 92 million tons of textile going to waste in the fashion industry each year, a business model like ours is a game-changer.

Our Product Line

The goods we produce and where we source materials also matter. That’s why our product line has been thoroughly tested to ensure high durability, wash, and wear. This process takes time. Samples from several suppliers are evaluated to determine which products yield high-quality print results. Of those, we choose the best items to add to our catalog.

Adding sustainable products means finding sustainable suppliers. Many of the businesses we work with have embedded environmental consciousness into their brand identity. Bella + Canvas, for instance, uses solar energy, limits water use, and recycles waste by-products to ensure their products are eco-friendly. What’s more, we only buy the materials we need to fulfill our customers’ orders. Acquiring stock only when it’s needed, goes hand in hand with our custom-order business model.

Our Equipment and Inks

We aim to make the printing process itself as eco-friendly as possible. That’s why we’ve chosen a manufacturer who cares about sustainable fashion. Our products are printed on state-of-the-art printing equipment by the specialists of DTG printing, Kornit. Thanks to their commitment to and efforts in sustainability, Kornit printers produce almost zero wastewater and use less energy, lowering our carbon footprint.

The Kornit biodegradable vegan NeoPigment inks used on our products are water-based, toxin-free and non-hazardous. These inks are CPSIA compliant and Oeko-Tex™ certified, which means they are safe to print on youth/children’s clothing and reduce environmental waste. Our manufacturer also takes great care to dispose of any left-over ink according to supplier guidelines to protect the Planet.

Planting Trees for Our Future

Our custom-order business model, rigorously tested products, and responsible printing process are a great start… but we know we can still do better. That’s why we have partnered with One Tree Planted, a non-profit environmental charity on a mission of global reforestation. For every order placed on our website, we contribute to a global reforestation project through One Tree Planted.

Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, prevent soil erosion and mitigate climate change. As you can see, trees provide environmental, social and economic benefits now and into the future.

We are grateful to have the opportunity to make a real impact! Thank you for your support.
